Garmin Varia RTL515

Testing now begins on the Garmin Varia RTL515

Reliable rear view radar lets you ride like you know what’s coming
Get more life out of your radar with up to 16 hours of battery life in day flash mode

I just purchased the device to add additional Visibility to my riding.
I have been using a helmet mirror for decades.  But now, after a few recent close 'surprises', I decided to add a Garmin Radar activated blinking - flashing rear light to the touring bike.

Maybe it is the increase traffic,
Maybe it is the drivers using cell phones
Maybe it is the less noisy vehicles.

I will update this after a few miles of riding with my thoughts and a review.

BUT
Boy!!!
that RED flashing light is BRIGHT

When I first turned it on (accidently), I had the light close to my face.
I was seeing red spots for about 10 minutes !
Be careful of that.

04/24/2023 - After the First 10 miles using the Varia RTL515, I am impressed!   I placed the device on the top of the support of the rear rack.  This seems to be a good location for the device.

As vehicles approached from the rear, I heard a alert and looked at the Garmin Computer and saw a YELLOW indicator on the left and right side of the display and the YELLOW turned RED and the vehicle got closer.  When the vehicle pasted, the RED turned to GREEN indicating no trouble!   I wish the alert sound was a bit louder, but perhaps I can adjust the sound.   I found that the radar indicates a vehicle before I would normally be able to hear it or see it in my helmet mirror.

BUT with just 10 miles with the device, I believe it going to become a necessity!
