As the mileage on the Surly Long Haul Trucker with Bafang BBS02 is closing in on 4,000, I have started noticing short temporary loses of power.
No error codes were shown on display.
In troubleshooting, I have eliminated the battery. The issue happens on both of the batteries, and both batteries do not have issues with the BBS02 on the RANS bicycle.
Cables:
All of the harness cables were disconnected from the motor controller wiring, cleaned, de-electric grease applied and reconnected. The issue still happens periodically (every couple of miles especially on a hill).
Display:
The watt use on the display appears to not be “normal” for the power settings and seem to fluctuate during normal peddling, But no error codes are shown. The speed is shown.
Motor Controller:
At this point, the issue looks to be a bad motor controller. This will be a replacement to see if that resolves the issue. If not, it might be a new motor and cables and do a fresh install!
(Note: I found that my water bottle that was mounted on my seat tube was leaking! It was an 20 year old bottle. It is now in the trash! Maybe, the issue came from water dripping into the Motor Controller.)
